The Ultimate Winter Getaway: South Lake Tahoe
South Lake Tahoe is a California resort city located on Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It’s known for nearby quality ski resorts and high-profile grand casinos. Tourists from all over the world have plenty of reasons why they choose to visit Tahoe all year round, and we are going to pin point in detail our top reasons on why South Lake Tahoe should be considered the ultimate winter getaway!
The Ridge Tahoe
The Ridge Tahoe is an amazing 11-acre resort located high above the crowds of South Lake Tahoe at 7,600 ft. elevation. The Ridge is the only on mountain ski in / ski out resort via their skier express for Heavenly Mountain which creates a wealth of convenience. In addition to the breathtaking panoramic views, there are also luxury suites complete with full kitchens, an indoor sports complex, indoor/outdoor swimming pools and jacuzzis, lavish full service spa, and a delicious restaurant and bistro which makes this a perfect destination for family vacations or romantic getaways. Our recommendation would be to secure the highest room available in whatever building you’re assigned to ensure that spectacular view!
Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort
Heavenly Mountain Resort is a ski resort located on the California-Nevada border in South Lake Tahoe. This substantial summit offers 97 action-packed runs and 30 lifts that are spread between California, Nevada and four base facilities. Sitting at a peak elevation of 10,067 ft. and a peak lift elevation of 10,040 ft., it’s no wonder why this colossus is considered to have the highest elevation of the Lake Tahoe area resorts. The best time to plan a ski or snowboard trip would be the middle of December extending out to early February as only 11 runs were open the beginning of December in our experience.
The Loft Theater
Abracadabra! This might be one of the many magic words you hear when attending a fun-filled night at the award-winning live performance Loft Theater. This entertaining experience is located in the vibrant Heavenly Village. Enjoy a fancy cocktail, or choose from the Best of 2016 award-winning wine list accompanied by an exquisite handcrafted Italian cuisine directly from the high-end ultra lounge before or after your designated show. Although there are always special events scheduled throughout the year, we are delighted to have witnessed the wonders of Titou! (French award-winning Magician) We were lucky enough to be chosen as volunteers for one of his famous magic tricks where he captivated the audience by making Ashley’s wedding ring disappear from her hand, and reappear in a fully packaged chicken cup of noodles that was locked in a treasure chest I was holding!
Heavenly Village Ice Rink
The Heavenly Village Ice Rink is a charming outdoor ice rink located directly in the center of the shops at Heavenly Village, and just a few steps away from everything one needs! Enjoy a family holiday or romantic night out at this picturesque skating rink. Upon arrival it’s clear to see that the entire rink is decorated with brilliant lights strung across from side to side with large luminescent snowflakes that light up the ice like a winter wonderland! Our recommendation would be to wear a heavy jacket and thermals under your clothes for comfort in the freezing temperatures to fully enjoy your experience.
Trapped in Tahoe
The newest addition of activities around the lake and only escape room in the area is called Trapped in Tahoe! There are five rooms offered at this location that will deliver heart pounding tension, mind-bending puzzles / riddles, and crazed amusement that will last for the duration of your trip. In our experience, we attempted The Test, which is one of their highest levels of difficulty rooms. Unfortunately, we were unable to escape with four people in our group; however, it was one of our favorite events we encountered in our visit to South Lake Tahoe!
